PADDLEFISH (Polyodon spathula)

ALIAS: Spoonbill

IDENTIFICATION: A scaleless fish with a cartilage skeleton, a very large mouth and a long, paddle shaped rostrum.

DIET: As filter feeders, paddlefish feed by straining zooplankton from the water column as they swim.

SPAWNING: Due to their reproductive requirements, reproduction does not occur in Midwestern lakes and ponds.

USE: Paddlefish are often grown for their caviar and delectable flesh.

Paddlefish are only available in late fall. Place an order by September 1st to ensure that requests can be accomodated. Paddlefish are only available via delivery. Minimum order of 3 fish required.
